FIBA Oceania holds first Board meeting for 2019-2023 cycle

The Zone Board discussed the new global strategic plan, the new competition system for men and women, Basketball For Good programs and the financial budget for 2020.
The meeting was directed by FIBA Oceania President Burton Shipley and was attended by FIBA Secretary-General Andreas Zagklis through a video call and FIBA Oceania Executive Director David Crocker.
Shipley opened the proceedings with the President's Report, updating the Zone Board on the activities in the region.
“The Board of Oceania reflects the strength in the Federations we have, the feeling around the table for our first meeting is incredibly positive. I was amazed at the ability of our members to be thinking about how they would promote basketball for the whole region,” Shipley stated. “I believe we have good relations within the group. We will debate about any idea or issue and walk out the door with a position that is well researched and totally agreed on how we will move forward.”
Strategic Plan
The Zone Board reviewed the FIBA Global Strategy and the alignment of the FIBA Oceania strategy for 2019-2023. The Zone will continue to focus on the development of National Federations and new initiatives to have a deeper impact particularly with Women in Basketball.
Competitions Review and 2023 Pacific Games country allocations
The meeting provided an opportunity for the Zone Board to reflect on the competitions held in 2019 including the Pacific Games, Oceania Youth Championships, FIBA Basketball World Cup and the Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
The Board amended the allocations for the 2023 Pacific Games. The premier event in the region will now feature:
• Melanesia - two (2) positions + Host (subject to preparation and performance)
• Micronesia - one (1) position
• Polynesia - two (2) positions
• Wildcard - two (2) positions
Basketball For Good
The regional office provided a 2016 to 2019 Basketball For Good summary report to the Zone Board.
Financial Report
The Zone Board was informed of the financial results of FIBA in Oceania Limited in 2019 and the budget for 2020.
