European Youth Leaders set to expand the Basketball For Good Movement
The Patrick Baumann House of Basketball welcomed a talented group of European Youth Leaders who are now in charge of implementing the Basketball For Good initiatives within their communities.
MIES ( Switzerland) - The Patrick Baumann House of Basketball welcomed a talented group of European Youth Leaders who will now coordinate Basketball For Good initiatives within their countries with their respective National Federations.
Basketball impact goes way beyond the courts. It also plays an important role in driving development within communities worldwide and transforming young people’s lives for the better. The universal language of basketball can bring together many different people, countries, and cultures, and raise awareness on multiple social issues. On this occasion, the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball opened its doors to a group of Youth Leaders from all over Europe.
17 participants, aged 19-34, from 14 different European National Federations that are hosting European Youth Championships in summer 2023, embarked on an incredible journey that stopped by the FIBA Headquarters in Mies, Switzerland.
The program, which is taking place from April to September, started with four virtual sessions. A three-day workshop followed at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball, which was partially facilitated by Planet League with whom the Foundation will launch a seven-week climate action tournament called the "Basketball For Good Cup."
During these three days prior to the FIBA Open 2023, the Youth Leaders were able to learn how to use basketball to create a positive impact within their communities.
They first had the opportunity to explore the culture and history of basketball during a guided tour and a teambuilding session in the FIBA Museum before interacting with different departments through a “speed dating session” to gain knowledge about the behind-the-scenes of the governing body of basketball.
On the second day, Planet League hosted a workshop about sustainability and climate action and gave the framework of the upcoming ‘Basketball For Good Cup’. Last but not least, on the third day the Youth Leaders were engaged in the implementation of activities during the FIBA Open 2023.
To finish off this week, the Youth Leaders brought their ‘A’ game participating as volunteers and coordinators during the FIBA Open 2023. They were given responsibilities such as coordinating table officials, implementing fun Mini Basketball sessions, creating interactive activities with the visitors, promoting environmental awareness, and paving the way for a remembered legacy.
Moving forward, it is now their turn to implement Basketball For Good activities within the European Youth Championships in collaboration with their National Federations and further develop the Basketball For Good Movement in their respective countries, in addition to the upcoming "Basketball For Good Cup".
