Egypt win double at FIBA 3x3 U17 Africa Cup 2023

CAIRO (Egypt) - Home sides Egypt (Men and Women) won Golds at the FIBA 3x3 U17 Africa Cup 2023 in Cairo, Egypt on November 30. 

The men’s side defeated Morocco and Algeria before booking a rematch against the former in the final. Omar Abdelmagdy put up a game-high 7 points while Mohammed Khairy put up 5 in a 17 - 11 victory to claim gold. 

Khairy put up 24 points over the tournament to lead his side to the win, picking up the MVP award in the process. He led the Men’s Team of the Tournament alongside top scorer Amine Belal Belkorchia (Algeria) who led his side to bronze and Mohammed Regragui (Morocco) who took home silver.

The Egyptian women represented proud as well, going unbeaten on their way to the final where they faced Morocco as well. It was a one-sided affair with Oushy Salem and Jude Gamal putting up 7 points apiece to pick up the 21 - 9 victory. 

A 19-point day from Salem led to the team’s success as she won the MVP award. Joining her in the Team of the Tournament was Morocco’s Aya Elkalali who finished the tournament as runners up and top scorer Mia Alaba (Uganda) who won bronze.
