Costa Rica - The Costa Rican Basketball Federation (FECOBA) is going through a very important stage in the development of basketball in the country with the start of the National Junior League 2019 with the U8, U10, U12 and U14 categories.

Coaches, teams and sports entities are ready to be a part of this project. The League is played by 106 teams, 23 more than in 2018, a high figure thinking about the future of Costa Rican basketball.

"The National League already started in Costa Rica. It was a great event and we are very happy because we continue to increase the number of participating teams. The venues are very well organized, we believe that the growth of basketball in Costa Rica continues, especially in small cities where we can have a better future for sure," said FECOBA President Álvaro Calvo.

The National Junior League began on March 9 and with it many stories, as Marco Pereira, who for over 15 years was in charge of the basketball project at the Colegio Seminario Costa Rica and now supports his daughter, Tamara, who started to play thanks to his push.

"A few weeks ago we started to motivate ourselves with basketball and what better than in the basketball house. We are supporting the Junior League," said the former coach of the Colegio Seminario de San José.

"I started playing basketball 3 months ago, I started to like this sport, I played in the park with my dad and now I am very happy to practice basketball", said Tamara Pereira who plays for the Seminario Gold.

FECOBA is also committed to the dissemination of junior tournaments on social networks through videos and articles, as well as the transmission of live games, so that children have the proper diffusion and Costa Rican basketball can be seen all over the world.

"Communications in this era are very important, from a telephone you can do it and we have experienced it for two years through the project "Juntos Somos Más". With a cellphone we started to broadcast 18 games and we aspire to do better as a Federation," said Ignacio Montero, one of the journalists of "Hablemos de Basket", a program that creates informative videos for the FECOBA Facebook page.

The Junior League intends to bring fans to the courts to support the dreams of the players. Making the “Junto Somos Mas” motto even stronger.
