ANTANANARIVO (Madagascar) - Joining the list of National Federations taking part in the FIBA PLUS initiative, the Basketball Federation of Madagascar has started its journey with the FIBA PLUS Performance Program.
As part of FIBA PLUS, an umbrella of programs designed to assist National Federations in the development of basketball in their country and FIBA's 2019-2027 long-term strategy, to Empower National Federations, the FIBA PLUS Performance Program is a tailor-made program for Madagascar Basketball.
The aim of the program is to put in place correct strategies for the federation's specific needs to improve its capacity to organize, professionalize and commercialize basketball activities, ensuring the game's successful development in the country.
After discussions with the federation and its external stakeholders to better understand how the federation works and the environment in which it operates, FIBA visited the National Federation in Antananarivo to share the collected information with the federation and propose its analysis to the Executive Board Members. This preparation phase was useful to define their future focus, develop their plan and provide necessary performance baselines and benchmarks that Madagascar Basketball can use to measure its future growth and progress.
Throughout the workshop, the Basketball Federation of Madagascar had the opportunity to define its vision and mission statements and its values as a sport organization, before defining goals and developing SMART objectives. The detailed action plans for the next months and years will be finalized online by October.
FIBA will support the federation along the way with a follow-up process that will be used to regularly re-evaluate the Madagascar Basketball strategy, to ensure it is still aligned with its needs. Finally, an assessment will be conducted at the end of the process, to check if the goals have been reached and if the game of basketball has developed in Madagascar.
Mr. Jean-Michel Ramaroson, President of the Basketball Federation of Madagascar said: "Madagascar is currently at a new turning point in its development. Having a strategic plan for the next four years will allow us to take a new level of development based on new visions that are clear and consistent with our current realities. The FIBA PLUS Performance program is therefore an opportunity not to be missed for Madagascar.
"The four-day workshop, where more than 15 members of our federation actively participated, has made a very positive impact on us. The participants could benefit from useful advice, and were provided with the same level of information from FIBA, which will help them a lot to implement successfully our plan and reach our objectives in a timely manner".
FIBA Executive Committee member and FIBA Africa President Anibal Manave, who also chairs FIBA's Working Group on National Federation Development, added: "Madagascar has done impressive work so far to develop basketball and achieve good results on the international stage. But the federation can go further and reach new heights. The FIBA PLUS Performance program will provide Madagascar Basketball with a high level of expertise, knowledge and practical guidance on each step of their strategic planning process, to help them plan how to reach the next level. I look forward to seeing their progress in the near future."
