PARIS (France) - In just 14 days, the world's best men's and women's 3x3 players will go head-to-head at the world's biggest sporting event: the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
Held in the heart of Paris, Parc Urbain La Concorde is set to welcome fans for non-stop sports entertainment and the unforgettable festival atmosphere that 3x3 is known for.
Sold-out crowds of 4,700 are expected at Place de la Concorde, where 3x3 will feature alongside skateboarding, cycling BMX freestyle, and breaking in an urban park which connects sport with art, music and youth culture.
More than 37,000 people are expected to attend the urban park daily, many of whom will be hooked on the fast-paced action of 3x3. Featuring DJ sets, sports demonstrations, and artistic performances, Parc Urbain will be the hottest ticket in town.
“Paris 2024 will be a historic moment for 3x3 basketball,” said FIBA 3x3 Managing Director Alex Sanchez. “When the players hit the court in front of sold-out crowds on 30 July, I have absolutely no doubt that millions of Olympic fans around the world will fall in love with our sport. With the world’s best teams competing over seven days of action-packed competition, we are set for an incredible 3x3 Olympic spectacle like we have never seen before.”
The competition will feature eight teams per gender, underlining FIBA 3x3's commitment to gender parity. The referees will also be split equally between men and women.
3x3's second Olympic appearance opens on 30 July with defending women's champion USA playing Germany. The opening men's game follows later that night between reigning champion Latvia and Lithuania.
Favorites include the men's No. 1 ranked Serbia, USA led by former NBA player Jimmer Fredette, and Latvia. On the women's side, USA, top-ranked China, and host France are among the contenders.
Teams will play each other in the pool stage. The top two teams advance directly to the semi-finals, while the bottom two teams are eliminated.
The other four teams will compete in the play-in round (3rd vs. 6th, 4th vs. 5th). The winners advance to the semi-finals.
The winners of the semi-finals will advance to the gold medal game on 5 August, while the losers will compete for the bronze medal.
Paris 2024 is set to be the crowning moment for 3x3, which has exploded in popularity since its incredible journey from the streets to the world's biggest stage. With LA28 on the horizon, 3x3's popularity is soaring and is set to reach unprecedented levels in Paris.
