    FIBA Intercontinental Cup 2022 pairings drawn in Egypt

    CAIRO (Egypt) - The official draw of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup 2022 concluded on Saturday, unveiling the path to the trophy for each of the four contenders at the big event.

    CAIRO (Egypt) - The official draw of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup 2022 concluded on Saturday, unveiling the path to the trophy for each of the four contenders at the big event that is set to take place in Cairo, Egypt from February 11-13, 2022.

    The spectacular Giza Plateau provided the backdrop for the draw ceremony of this milestone edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, as it is the first time in history that an African country plays host to the competition.

    The first Semi-Final, that will raise the curtain on the tournament at the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall in the Egyptian capital, will feature a clash between the two representatives of the Americas as Basketball Champions League Americas 2020-21 champions Flamengo will face NBA G League 2020-21 winners Lakeland Magic.

    In the second Semi-Final, hosts Zamalek SC of Cairo, the champions of the inaugural Basketball Africa League campaign, will take on Basketball Champions League 2020-21 winners Hereda San Pablo Burgos, who are also the current FIBA Intercontinental Cup title holders.

    The Semi-Final between Flamengo and Lakeland Magic is set to take place at 17:00 local time (15:00 GMT) on Friday, February 11 and that between Zamalek and Burgos will tip off at 20:00 local time (18:00 GMT) on the same day.

    The winners will face off in the Final at 20:00 local time (18:00 GMT) on Sunday, February 13, with the 3rd-Place Game taking place at 17:00 local time (15:00 GMT) .

    The ambassador of the 2022 event, Egyptian soccer legend and former Zamalek player Mido, accepted  the task of conducting the draw at the Giza Plateau and took the opportunity to profess his love of basketball.

    The distinguished panel at the ceremony included Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy, FIBA Africa Zone 5 president Hesham El-Hariri, Egyptian Basketball federation president Magdy Abou Frekha and BCL CEO Patrick Comninos.
