ISTANBUL (Turkey) - Jamar Smith was named FIBA Europe Cup Final MVP after helping lead Bahcesehir College to the 2021-22 title.

The American guard took over in the opening quarter with a personal run of 11 unanswered points as the hosts opened up a 19-point lead on their way to a 90-74 victory in the second leg.

Smith ignited the record crowd for a FIBA Europe Cup Final after catching fire from beyond the arc and finished with a team-high 17 points along with 4 assists.

"The trophy means a lot," declared Smith. "It's a testament to our whole team, not just me. Tonight, anybody could have been MVP - it's been the same all season, we have had a lot of different guys stepping up in different moments.

"I'm tired, I'm happy, I'm thankful. I feel blessed. The coach had the faith in me since the beginning of the year. When we spoke, he told me our goals and I'm glad he chose me."

The 35-year-old adds a second European trophy to his resume having previously helped Unicaja Malaga to a EuroCup success in 2017 having also been the competition's MVP in 2021.

Smith averaged 14.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game over the course of the season having played a key role as Bahcesehir finished as deserving winners of the competition.
