    Sweden, Denmark secure promotion as they set Final showdown

    PLOIESTI (Romania) - Denmark and Sweden both secured promotion at the FIBA U18 European Championship, Division B and will meet in Sunday's final to determine the 2022 title winners.

    PLOIESTI (Romania) - Denmark and Sweden both secured promotion at the FIBA U18 European Championship, Division B and will meet in Sunday's final to determine the 2022 title winners.

    The two teams will be playing in Division A next summer as Sweden enjoyed a 94-71 success against Iceland and Denmark claimed a thrilling 77-75 victory over Finland in the all-Nordic Semi-Finals.

    Marqus Marion put Denmark ahead at 74-73 with 3:26 remaining and they were able to hold on for the win after holding off Finland's fourth quarter fightback. Tobias Jensen contributed 11 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists to back up Marion's 19-point, 10-rebound double-double.

    Finland had trailed by as many as 13 points before making a run at the start of the final quarter to take the lead, but ultimately came up short as they were without Miro Little.

    Earlier, Iceland had opened up an early 21-11 advantage, but ended up being blown away in the second half as Sweden were led to victory by a trio of star performances.

    Tunde Fasasi poured in 29 points in another dominant display, while Elliot Cadeau added 25 points, 5 assists and 5 steals and William Kermoury weighed in with 18 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists.


    Elsewhere, Bosnia and Herzegovina eased past the hosts Romania in an 87-69 success with Portugal defeating Netherland 77-65 in the other 5-8 Classification Game behind 23 points from Diogo Seixas.

    There was a 60-51 win for Belgium against Ukraine, while Estonia held off Austria in an 82-75 success to round out the day's action in the 9-12 Classification Games.

    Hungary and Latvia will play for 13th place after winning 67-60 and 83-48 over Georgia and Bulgaria, respectively. Norway claimed a comfortable 80-46 win over Ireland in the 17-22 Classification Group with Slovakia also improving to 2-0 after beating Cyprus 77-53.
