Kovacik handed coaching reins at CCC Polkowice

POLKOWICE (EuroLeague Women) – CCC Polkowice have their fourth head coach of the season after the struggling Polish club opted to install Slovak Republic play-caller Maros Kovacik.

His appointment comes in the wake of Hungary head coach Stefan Svitek resigning less than two weeks into his tenure, having failed to inspire a win in the Polish League or in EuroLeague Women. He had taken the hot-seat from former Ukraine national team boss Vadim Czeczuro.

Svitek recently beat Kovacik when their respective national teams met in an important FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017 Qualifier in Piestany. However, both managed to guide their nations to a spot at the Final Round next summer.

In a quirk of fate, Kovacik also took over from Svitek at Good Angels Kosice in 2012 and led them to an historic EuroLeague Women Semi-Final place in his first season.

Kovacik follows on from Sergii Voznyuk, who took over team affairs during Wednesday’s 81-60 loss in Salamanca against Perfumerias Avenida.

That result leaves Polkowice on the back foot with a 0-4 record in the competition, although the most pressing priority is likely to be taking them up the Polish League as they are languishing in eighth spot with five losses from their opening nine outings.
