EuroLeague Women champions to be celebrated with digital medals

MUNICH (Germany) - The EuroLeague Women champions will not only lift the coveted trophy at the Final Four in Mersin but will also have their achievements recognized digitally.

MERSIN (Türkiye) - The EuroLeague Women champions will not only lift the coveted trophy at the Final Four in Mersin but will also have their achievements recognized digitally.

FIBA has partnered up with Deloitte to bring the legacy of the champions into the digital age, complementing physical medals with personalized protected digital assets, which will be presented to all winners of the competition.

Even if digital cannot replace the physical world, new generations, including athletes themselves, are spending a large majority of their time on digital platforms.

These transformational digital medals will facilitate easier sharing of player success and accomplishments in the league, marking a significant step for EuroLeague Women in aligning with the evolving landscape of sports engagement.

"As the sporting world continues to evolve, it's imperative to embrace cutting-edge technologies to enhance the athlete and fan experiences and celebrate the accomplishments of our athletes in new, dynamic ways," said FIBA Executive Director Kamil Novak.

"We are very pleased to partner with Deloitte for this project, which will continue to highlight EuroLeague Women as a trailblazer in embracing digital innovation."

"Digital medals are another way to celebrate these athletes and provide them with the digital and social media tools to tell their own authentic story," commented John Tweardy, Managing Partner of Deloitte Sports.

"Deloitte Sports is thrilled to partner with FIBA Europe to create unique digital collectables for the talented athletes in the EuroLeague Women Final Four."

This initiative builds upon the EuroLeague Women's recent successes in the digital realm, having recently been recognized as one of the fastest-growing sports properties globally.

The 2024 edition of the EuroLeague Women Final Four will take place in Mersin, Türkiye from April 12-14, with Cukurova Basketbol Mersin, Fenerbahce Alagoz Holding, Villeneuve d'Ascq and ZVVZ USK Praha set to battle it out for the title.
