    Matos calls on seven from historic Dominican team

    SANTO DOMINGO (2016 FIBA U17 World Championship) - The Dominican Republic are ready to make their debut in the FIBA U17 World Championship after naming their final roster for the 16-team event in Zaragoza.

    SANTO DOMINGO (2016 FIBA U17 World Championship) - The Dominican Republic are ready to make their debut in the FIBA U17 World Championship after naming their final roster for the 16-team event in Zaragoza. 

    Head coach Juan Matos selected seven of the players who guided the nation to a historic fourth place at the 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championship to get them into the U17 Worlds.

    The team will be captained by Miguel Diaz, who was on the U16 team along with Jose Benitez, Alanzo Frink, Francisco Melo, Anderson Mirabeaux, Angel Perdomo and Frantony Segura

    The five new players for the group are Jeffrey Hernandez, Justin Minaya, Yeison Rivera, John Vargas and Ismael Valdez.

    Frinz, Minaya and Valdez are all US-born children of Dominican parents while Benitez, Diaz Hernandez and Mirabeaux all play together for Delfines del Mirador in the Dominican. 

    The Dominicans will take on Bosnia and Herzegovina, France and Korea in Group D in Zaragoza.
