Basketball fans everywhere can watch the FIBA Melanesia Basketball Cup

PAPUA NEW GUINEA - FIBA is set to broadcast and stream the FIBA Melanesia Basketball Cup throughout the region and the wider basketball community. Papua New Guinea, Fiji, New Caledonia and the Solomon Islands have all signed agreements to broadcast the games live in their respective countries.

In Fiji, the games will be broadcast by FBC, in New Caledonia by France TV, Solomon Islands by TTV and in Papua New Guinea on EMTV.

Four men's and four women's teams will battle it out for the first ever Melanesia Cup. The top three teams will qualify for the 2019 Pacific Games. 

FIBA in Oceania President, Mr. Burton Shipley expressed his excitement to have the games available for the regions basketball fans.

"This is an opportunity for these players to represent their countries and earn the right to be not only champions of Melanesia, but also qualify for the Pacific Games," said Mr. Shipley. "For each competing nation to have the games shown on tv in their country is fantastic and shows that basketball in the Pacific is really a growing sport."

"Fans in other countries will also have the chance to watch via FIBA’s YouTube and this is a great chance for us to show the best of the Melanesia region.”

FIBA in Oceania and Singapore Executive Director, Mr. David Crocker reiterated Shipley's excitement.

"We have some of the regions best players on display during this event. We are thrilled to be able to showcase this talent throughout the region and the larger basketball community."

The first-ever FIBA Melanesia Basketball Cup is being hosted in Papua New Guinea from the 27th-30th of September.
