    Welcome and Flamengo were better on the first day of Group D

    MONTEVIDEO (DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana 2018) - Welcome (Uruguay) and Flamengo (Brazil) began Group D of the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana 2018 with important victories.

    Welcome defeated the host of the preliminary group Club Atletico Goes (Uruguay) by 77-73 in a game played under a great atmosphere. The performances from Nathaniel Frye (23 points, 6 assists) and Nicholas Waddell (18 and 9 rebounds) caused havoc and tipped the balance in favor of Welcome.

     
    A great defense from the team coached by Esteban Yaquinta caused 11 steals and forced Goes to commit 20 turnovers.

    For Goes, Jarred Shaw contributed 20 points and 6 rebounds, while Fernando Martinez added 17 from the bench.

    In the first game of the preliminary group, Flamengo played a great second half and defeated Libertad Sunchales (Argentina) by a score of 98-86. Deryk Ramos had 24 points and six three-pointers, including a decisive one with 35 seconds remaining, to give his team a 92-85 lead. The point guard also distributed six assists.

     
    The Argentine Franco Balbi summed 18 points and Marquinhos added 16 in a variant offensive for the Rio de Janeiro team.

    The Brazilians, reacted after a slow start and made some adjustments to win the second half 59-39. The offensive rebounds (12) and second-chance points (17) were a key factor for the Flamengo win.

    Marcos Saglietti and Juan Cangelosi were the top scorers of the Argentine team with 18 and 17 points, respectively.

    In the second day of Group D, Libertad will face Welcome and Goes will face Flamengo.
