MADRID - Volunteers will be very important to the success of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Since the campaign was launched on 31 October to find volunteers for FIBA's flagship event that will take place in Spain next summer (30 August-14 September 2014), more than 7,000 people from 79 countries around the world have applied.

On Wednesday, 150 of them were in CaixaForum for the presentation of the volunteers programme where a specific logo was also unveiled.

CaixaBank, one of the largest banks in Spain and partnership of 2014 FIBA World Cup, will support the volunteers programme. The company has a big social commitment in Spain.

"We are so happy with this support. We want to make the FIBA Basketball World Cup an event that is bigger than the two weeks of competition. We want to involve the five continents and leave a historical legacy for basketball," said Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) President Jose Luis Saez.

Amaya Valdemoro and Elisa Aguilar, who retired after being crowned EuroBasket Women 2013 champions last June, served as presenters at the event in CaixaForum, during which videos were shown to encourage people to apply in becoming a volunteer.

"The volunteers helped me a lot when I was a professional. Without them, I wouldn't have enjoyed as much as I did the tournaments that I took part in. They are really important for the players and the development of the championship," said Valdemoro, who played in four FIBA World Championship during her career.

A new platform will be launched in January 2014 specifically for volunteers.
