DAKAR (Senegal) - All the Quarter-Finalists are in and it is down to business in the knockout stages after 2024 Women's Basketball League Africa (WBLA) Group C matches concluded on Wednesday at the Marius Ndiaye Arena in Dakar.
Ferroviario de Maputo's victory over ASB Makomeno leaves them perfect and are the only other team, after Al Ahly Sporting Club in Group A, to head to the knockout stages unbeaten.
We bring you a daily review from Wednesday's actions in Dakar:
Cossa, Mucauro impel Ferroviario to 3-0 run
Anabela Cossa, who only played 17:33 minutes, after picking a bad knock on the face in the second quarter, only to return in the fourth and bag 11 points, including three treys, finished as the side's top scorer as Ferroviario de Maputo made light work of ASB Makomeno for an 88-38 win. Cossa scored 19 points, had five rebounds, and dished out two assists, while grabbing a steal.
Ingvild Mucauro gave a spectacular show for 14 points, the second highest for the Mozambicans, adding seven rebounds and as many steals. She completed her impressive numbers with five assists for 22 in efficiency. "It was a tough start as we came in a little too confident and we're not concentrated enough and made a lot of mistakes defensively. After the first quarter we made adjustments as we were chasing the scores as well not just a win," Ingvild said. "We are a very defensive team and that came out in the second half when we finally settled down to play our game. As we head to the knockout, we want to carry this momentum," Ingvild added.
Perfect start hands REG automatic ticket
Up against Senegalese side Jeanne D'Arc, Rwanda Energy Group (REG) dominated from the first whistle to pick a 65-52 victory that saw them bag their ticket to the Last Eight as the second-best side in Group C. Despite Jeanne D'Arc dominating the paint 34-28, and 21-17 on points off turnovers, the Rwandese champions shot 8-of- 31 from range, four off Destiny Promise Philoxy, to sink the home side, who only managed one trey. "We stuck to the plan to come out on top. After the first quarter they had different plans but we wanted to win, continue being aggressive and to play REG basketball which is what we did. I am proud of my team and we cannot wait to play on Friday," Destiny Promise Philoxy. FIBA
