MUNICH (FIBA Europe Cup) - 28 teams took to the court across the continent on Wednesday night as the opening week of the 2016-17 FIBA Europe Cup season came to a climax, creating no shortage of excitement along the way.

Week 1 began with overtime action on Tuesday night, and ended on the same note on Wednesday.

With double-overtime beckoning down in Portugal, it was up to SL Benfica's veteran Carlos Andrade to come up with the shot of the round. Casual as you like, the 38-year-old guard shot over his defender from the top of the arc, nailing the triple for the 77-74 victory over visiting Alba Fehervar.

Taking on European debutants Brussels Basketball in the Belgian capital, 2016 Final Four hosts Elan Chalon had to call on all of their big-game experience to finally break their Group A opponents in the final 90 seconds, scoring the last seven points for an 86-77 win.

John Roberson controlled the pace for Chalon, finishing with a game-high 19 points.

"We played against the best team in the group and we showed that we belong in this competition. We are on the right track," expressed former Belgian national team player and Brussels captain Guy Muya.

For Turkish club Gaziantep, who have become a regular sight in the latter stages of European competition in recent years, an early season wake-up call was in stock.

Travelling to Cyprus to take on AEK Larnaca in Group G action, it would take five minutes of added time before Gaziantep could prevail 93-86, after Canadian Andrew Rautins failed to hit a winning three in regulation time for the away team.

Marcus Denmon was in fine touch for Gaziantep, recording a FIBA Europe Cup Week 1 high 35 points.
