    Five teams remain undefeated after Day 2 in Matosinhos

    MATOSINHOS (Portugal) - Day 2 at the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship came to a close on Saturday, and five teams still have no losses.

    MATOSINHOS (Portugal) - Day 2 at the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship came to a close on Saturday, and five teams still have no losses, as everyone continues to jockey for positioning in their respective groups.

    Hungary moved to 2-0 in Group A with a 56-50 win over Italy. It was a back-and-forth game, as Hungary led after the first quarter, Italy won the second quarter to tie the game at halftime, both teams scored 12 points in the third quarter, before Hungary finally pulled away with a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter.

    Hungary got 29 points from their bench with Noemi VIrag Arvai (14 points) and Reka Toman (10 points) combining for 24 of those points.

    Croatia got on the board in the win column in Group A after beating Finland 57-50. Finland led 28-21 at halftime, but Croatia's 36-21 second half propelled them to victory.

    Petra Bozan played all 40 minutes and put up a big stat line of 14 points, 23 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 blocks, all while shooting an efficient 7-of-10 from the field, while Ella Majstorovic led them with 17 points.

    Spain kept their foot on the gas in Group B with another big win, this time at the expense of Germany, 66-32, as they now have a point differential of +88 after two games. Spain held a wide advantage in points from turnovers (30-6) after forcing 28 turnovers and only committing 6 turnovers themselves.

    Iyana Martin Carrion led Spain in scoring with 17 points, while Awa Fam Thiam just missed a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

    The final game to finish on Day 2 came from Group B, where Lithuania saw off Slovenia from start to finish, 78-54. Karina Budajeva hit the 20-point mark with 21 points, shooting 8-of-11 from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point.

    In Group C, Latvia recorded their first win of the tournament over Poland 77-55. The game was tied at halftime before Latvia went on to outscore Poland 38-16 in the second half to secure their win.

    Latvia's Estere Petrus finished with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, while Evelina Otto just missed out on a double-double with 9 points and 14 rebounds.


    Belgium were able to stay as the lone unbeaten team in Group C after defeating hosts Portugal in a nail-biter 53-51. The two teams kept pace with each other, as the biggest lead of the game was only seven points.

    Bench points proved to be important, as Belgium's bench scored 22 points (led by Elle Declercq with13 points), compared to only five for Portugal.

    Greece grabbed their first win of the tournament in Group D after beating Denmark 67-50. Greece trailed by three points at halftime, but a 21-11 third quarter in the Greeks' favor gave them the edge.

    Panagiota Roumpini Stoligka once again led Greece in scoring with 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and 5-of-8 from three-point.


    In the other Group D game, France continued their strong play with an 82-35 blowout of Czech Republic behind Tea Cleante's game-high 24 points on an efficient 10-of-12 shooting from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from two-point in only 19 minutes.

    Sarah Keboum Biamou also chipped in a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the victors.
