MUNICH (Germany) - Defending EuroLeague Women champions UMMC Ekaterinburg are now just one more victory away from posting a phenomenal unbeaten Regular Season after beating Perfumerias Avenida on Tuesday night.
The Russian giants made a significant statement of intent as they recorded a 93-67 road win, leaving Salamanca with a brilliant 13-0 record, having dominated their nearest challengers in Group A.
While the visitors started the matchup slowly, a scorching 22-4 run either side of the first break put them into the ascendancy and Avenida never recovered as UMMC continued to tear away.
Jonquel Jones showcased her talent as usual with a superb 28 points and 11 rebounds, while Allie Quigley went 5 of 5 from three-point land as the visitors got hot from downtown.
By contrast, Avenida labored from long range and that was one of the reasons for their struggles. They have also not yet wrapped up second spot in the Group, since ZVVZ USK Praha claimed a 85-74 win at Umana Reyer.
ZVVZ USK Praha were led brilliantly by Teja Oblak who racked up 20 points and 10 assists, while Alyssa Thomas contributed a spectacular near triple-double of 17 points, 10 boards and 8 assists.
The Prague team were behind during the early exchanges and weren't able to impose themselves until the second quarter when they turned up the offensive dial with a massive 31 points.
Astou Ndour and Kayla Thornton impressed for the Italians with 20 and 18 points respectively, although their feint hopes of making the Quarter-Finals have evaporated.
