    SANTO DOMINGO (FIBA Americas Championship) - Nestor Garcia, Julio Toro and Flor Menendez are being strongly considered for the vacant coaching position of the Dominican Republic.

    The country’s basketball federation president Frank Herrasme is expected to reveal the appointment in the coming days.

    "We are looking for a person that commits to being in our country to help develop our national coaches," said Herrasme.

    "All three of the candidates comply with the profile we are looking for."

    Toro has coached Puerto Rico’s national side while Garcia has been at the helm of Uruguay.

    The Dominican Republic national side will begin its preparations on for the FIBA Americas Championship on July 13.

    Sacramento Kings guard Francisco Garcia has already confirmed he is to play while the federation is hopeful that NBA players Al Horford, Trevor Ariza and Charlie Villanueva will also take part.

    "Regarding the others, we are waiting for them to complete their (contract negotiations and) signings in the NBA to be able to pay the insurance," Herrasme said.
