Dominicana and Puerto Rico top Groups on last day of Group play
PATILLAS (2017 FIBA Americas U16) – As a result of the victories for Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, tomorrow on the Semi-Finals the Dominicans will take on Mexico and Puerto Rico will face Panama.
PATILLAS (2017 FIBA Americas U16) – Puerto Rico and Dominicana claimed new victories at the Centrobasket U15 Championship and as a result, tomorrow on the Semi-Finals the Dominicans will take on Mexico and Puerto Rico will face Panama.
The Dominican Republic defeated Panama, 85-45, to finish the group-phase of the Centrobasket U15 Championship with a 3-0 record. The Dominicans dominated the match-up from the start, claiming a double-digit lead at the end of the first quarter. The Dominicans kept adding to the lead and will go on to the Semi-Finals with the first position of Group B. Anfernee de la Rosa was the top performer for the Dominicans after scoring 18 points and capturing 8 rebounds.
Led offensively by 56 points from Jordan Persad, Trinidad and Tobago captured its first win of the regional championship after defeating Guyana, 107-60. Everything went Trinidad and Tobago’s way during the game. The team coached by Barry Stewart didn’t take the foot of the pedal and took the third position of Group B. Persad accumulated a double-double of 56 points and 13 steals in the win.
Puerto Rico secured the top of Group A after defeating Mexico, 85-54. The Boricuas controlled the scoreboard early on the match-up against an opponent who suffered offensively, due to the host suffocating defense. The Puerto Ricans kept adding to their difference with great ball movement and effectiveness. Mexico kept fighting, but the Boricuas always had an answer. The top performer for Puerto Rico was Jermine Miranda with 23 points.
Tomorrow on the Semi-Finals, the Dominican Republic will take on Mexico and Puerto Rico will face Panama, the winners will go on to play for the Gold, and the losers will play for the Bronze. Meanwhile on the Reclassification Round, Costa Rica will take on Guyana, and the winner will then go on to face Trinidad and Tobago to determine 5th place of the Centrobasket Championship.
