    The Top performers who lit up the Day 3 of W4 of the African Qualifiers

    On the day the W4 came to a close on Sunday Shannon Evans, Gerson Goncalves, Sunday Dech, Vafessa Fofana and Gorgui Dieng left their mark in the competition with terrific displays.

     

    ABIDJAN/MONASTIR (Cote d'Ivoire/Tunisia) - Cote d'Ivoire's qualification for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup dominated the last day of Window 4 of the African Qualifiers in Abidjan and Monastir, but five individual performances lit up the day.

    On the day the W4 came to a close on Sunday Shannon Evans, Gerson Goncalves, Sunday Dech, Vafessa Fofana and Gorgui Dieng left their mark in the competition with terrific displays.

    Making his first appearance for Guinea since November 2021, Evans grabbed the man-of-the-match performance after powering his team, to an important victory against Uganda, who managed a 10-point lead at some point.

    South Sudan got closer to their first World Cup qualification thanks in part to Dech's terrific display that led South Sudan to an 85-65 victory over Egypt.

    In Abidjan, the Angolans led three straight games in the current African Qualifiers, and Goncalves made his presence felt in the 70-67 triumph over old rivals Nigeria.

    Dieng and Fofana set the tone for their teams, who closed Window 4 in a winning manner.
