SYDNEY (WNBL/Olympics) - Belinda Snell wrote her name in permanent ink in the history books of international basketball at the 2006 FIBA World Championship for Women.

As a part of the Opals side that captured the gold medal in Sao Paolo, Snell had the most important game of her career in the Semi-Final against Brazil, hitting three of five shots from long range and scoring 22 points.

With the Brazilians leading 68-64 early in the fourth quarter, Snell buried a three-pointer and made a lay-up to put her side on the road to victory.

The Aussies then beat Russia in the title game.

Snell figures to be a key player next summer as Australia take aim at the Olympic gold medal in London and she is in terrific form right now.

For the second time this season, Snell has been named as the WNBL Player of the Week after leading the Sydney Uni Flames to a win.

The 30-year-old shooting guard erupted for 30 points in a 90-88 triumph at the Bulleen Boomers.

Snell ranks in the WNBL top 10 in scoring (20.3 per game), assists (5.5), blocks (1.4) and steals (2.0).

Sydney Uni are second in the WNBL with a record of 8-3.
