Reigning Olympic champions USA confirm star laden roster for Paris

    5 min to read

For only the second time in history, every member of the USA roster has won an Olympic or FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup gold medal.

COLORADO SPRINGS (USA) - They're out for a staggering eighth straight title and the names of the USA players tasked with that mission at the Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024 are now known. As you would expect from the reigning champions and the red-hot favorites to top the podium in the French capital, the roster is dripping with star quality.

The squad has a combined 15 Olympic gold medals, 18 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup titles and for just the second time in history (the first time being 2012), every baller has an Olympic or World Cup gold medal to their name.

Diana Taurasi will play at an astonishing sixth straight Olympic edition. The guard has played more games than any other women’s player in USA Basketball Olympic history (38) and is second in points scored (414), trailing only Lisa Leslie (488).

Meanwhile another veteran baller in the shape of Brittney Griner will make her eagerly anticipated return having also last suited up at Tokyo 2020.

There will be plenty of limelight thrown in their direction, while the familiar potential MVP power Breanna Stewart and A'Ja Wilson are in reality, likely to prove the driving force behind USA's gold quest in Paris.

Elsewhere on the roster, the influence of Napheesa Collier continues to grow and she showed what a power she can be at the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2024 in Antwerp. Meanwhile fellow forward Alyssa Thomas has been on fire in the WNBA and could be ready to shine. In the backcourt, there is space for the experienced Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum and Jewell Loyd, with Sabrina Ionescu looking forward to her Olympic debut and likely to bring the noise of the bench.

Of course with so much talent to call upon for head coach Cheryl Reeve, nothing changes with USA and there will be almost just as much discussion as to who didn't manage to squeeze onto the roster this time. Not least, the likes of Caitlin Clark. The full list of USA players and all other announced squads can be found at our Roster Tracker for the Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024.
