DBF revive chances, ABS Makomena stun CNSS

    Review

First win for ABS Makomena and a bounce-back victory for DBF marked gameday-2 in Douala.

DOUALA (Cameroon) - Cameroon side, Daniel Battiston Foundation (DBF) pushed their opening day defeat behind them, and ABS Makomena of DR Congo showed class against CNSS in an exciting encounter.

And, in the process, both DBF and ABS Makomena registered their first wins in the Qualifiers.

This is how it went at the Complexe Multi Sports de Japoma Douala.

DBF revive chances with convincing win over NABA

Despite falling to CNSS 61-55 in the opening day fixture of Group C in the race for a ticket to Dakar, Senegal for the Final Round of the Women's Basketball League Africa, DBF, and Coach Nadine Therese Ngo Mboua came out strong on Game day 2 determined to right the wrongs in her first game.

She and her girls did that excellently with a convincing 99-32 win over NABA that were yet to recover from their loss to FAP.

From the tip off in the game, DBF took total control pressing on their opponent and not letting them settle down to the game. Their offense in the first quarter yielded a 35-7 advantage which they maintained through the other three quarters with scores at 26-9, 18-6 and 20-9 respectively.

NABA was forced to 49 turnovers from which DBF scored 48 points and that left the Coach Ambroise Ambourouet's wards disorganized.

Marie la Grace Ongmabock scored a game-high 21 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals in the game. Susanne Eben added 16 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals just as Kesie Andre Yagou recorded 12 points, 9 rebounds and 1 assist to show the superiority of the team.

NABA on their part did not give easily but the hearts did not pressure that came from DBF.

Jessica Reve Abagha Ada was again the standout player for NABA as she was able to manage 6 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals while Genie Moussavou scored 5 points and the trio of Rolande Gemina Dinga, Ghislaine Aboghe and Theresa Mayembe added 4 points apiece.

NABA will next face CNSS on Wednesday while DBF faces FAP on Thursday.

    ABS Makomena stun CNSS

CNSS still smarting from their victory over DBF on gameday-1 believed they had the game against ABS Makomena in their stride with a first quarter 21-17 but it turned out for Coach Koko Ade that the DR Congo side had a joker up their sleeves.

It didn't take long for ABS Makomena to show their stuff as they came into the second quarter firing from all cylinders and going into the halftime break with a 40-31 score.

From this point, the Coach Samuel Mutsvanga led side never looked back nor showed any respect for their opponent as they drove home comfortably in the third and final quarters 28-10 and 15-5 for a final score of 73-46.

Dorcas Marondera was the tormentor in chief for ABS Makomena as she recorded a double -double score of 15 points, 12 rebounds. Laura Kabongo 13 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists and Kafiatou Coulibaly dropped 10 points.

After a tough encounter on day 1, CNSS could not keep pace with the ABS Makomena ladies that used their size to their advantage. However, Gracias Nguz scored a team high score of 14 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals while Bintou Drame scored 8 points for her side.

The results of the games have thrown open Group C given that four out of the five teams in the Qualifiers have recorded one win each.
