Emus with a quick trip to the Quarters

AS SALT (Jordan) - Australia swept their way into the FIBA U18 Asia Cup 2024 Quarter-Finals following a 113-48 conquest of Chinese Taipei to close out their Group Phase campaign on a high note, Wednesday at the Arena Complex.

Mason Honeyman finished with 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists and netted an efficiency of 20 to spearhead the Emus to a clean 3-0 sweep of Group A.

Ajak Nyuon and Emmett Adair produced 13 points each. Che Brogan made 11 points while the trio of Jacob Furphy, Ben Waller, and Luke Fennell each chipped in 10 points as the Aussies attacked on all fronts to secure the dominant victory.

The crew, though, needed some time to get into flow. Chinese Taipei were keeping step early and were within just five, until Furphy, Honeyman, and Waller helped out in putting together the run that gave them a 30-12 lead at the end of the first.

It would be all Australia afterwards as the opposition could no longer find any sort of momentum, and they eventually fell to 1-2 in the group standings.

Finishing as the no. 2 seed in the group, on the other hand, are Lebanon after their 66-45 beatdown of Chinese Taipei later in the day.

Nikolai Choueiri finished with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds as he was the only double-digit scorer for the young Cedars, but that's because all but one of the 12 players fielded scored at least a point in the triumph.

Lebanon only led by three early but usual providers Karim Oueidat and Anthony Naba helped string together a huge run to finish the first with a 26-8 advantage and that proved to be the beginning of a one-sided affair in their favor.

Tuvshinjargal Gantulga, meanwhile, had a game-high 15 points to lead Mongolia, who finished the Group Phase winless in three outings.
