AMMAN (Jordan) - China, New Zealand, Australia, and Jordan will carry the fight for Asia in the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 in Switzerland.
The four proud programs composed the four-team envoy to the prestigious global competition after reaching the Semi-Finals of FIBA U18 Asia Cup 2024.
China were the first to secure the flight to Lausanne following an 89-43 win over India in the Quarter-Final opener on Saturday at the Prince Hamza Hall in the Jordanian capital, booking their second straight, 13th overall trip to the U19 World Cup.
New Zealand followed suit after their 87-61 ouster of Iran to register their first appearance in the biennial conclave since 2019 in Greece.
The third ticket was punched by Australia after a masterful 89-41 conquest of Japan, which not only spoiled the U19 World Cup return of the latter but also their podium hopes after going home as runners-up of the 2022 U18 Asia Cup.
It will be the Emus' 15th campaign overall in the U19 World Cup, and their first since 2021 in Latvia, where the country finished at 10th place.
Booking the last spot were Jordan following their massive upset of Korea, 73-69, as it ended the East Asian team's reign as champions of the continental meet.
It was a historic triumph as well for Jordan as they booked just their second U19 World Cup appearance after nearly 30 years, or since their debut in 1995 - the same year where they last reached the U18 Asia Cup Semi-Finals.
