    Competition System

The competing teams will take part in the qualifying tournament for the Basketball Africa League (Road to BAL) 2024.

The Group Stages will take place between 10 October and 1 November 2024.

    Qualification System

    Group Phase

The registered teams will be divided into five (05) groups of 3 to 5 teams maximum, divided into Western Division (Groups A, B, C) and Eastern Division (Groups D, E).

Each team will play the other teams in its group on a one-off basis.

The teams ranked first and second in each group will qualify for the Elite 16.

Certain teams may also qualify as Wild Cards on the basis of their sporting results, as well as the NBA Academy team and the teams that took part in the last BAL tournament and are champions in their respective countries.

This makes a total of sixteen (16) teams qualified for the second round.

Below is the composition of the groups:

Four (4) cities: Tripoli (Libya), Douala (Cameroon), Harare (Zimbabwe), and Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania) will host the group stages.

    Elite 16

Sixteen (16) teams from the group stages will take part in this second round. These teams will be divided into two (2) groups (F & G) of eight (8) teams each.

The Elite 16 matches will take place from 5 to 17 November 2024 with Group E and Group F.

The top two (2) teams from each group, i.e. 04 teams, will qualify for the final phase of the BAL. These teams will join the hit (8) other automatically qualified teams (Nigeria, Tunisia, Angola, Senegal, Egypt, South Africa, Morocco and Rwanda).
