MUNICH (Germany) - Luxembourg will take part in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Pre-Qualifiers Second Round, replacing Austria in Group C.
FIBA Europe invited Luxembourg following Austria's decision earlier this week to withdraw from the competition, due to internal reasons.
According to the results of the FIBA World 2023 European Pre-Qualifiers First Round, Luxembourg were the next team in line to replace Austria.
Luxembourg will compete against Sweden and hosts Portugal in Group C, in a double round-robin format as teams play each other twice. Group action in Matosinhos, Portugal starts on August 12 and concludes on August 18.
The other three Second Round bubbles will be hosted in Riga, Podgorica and Skopje, with the top two teams in each of the four groups advancing to the next stage.
In the First Round, Luxembourg had finished third in Group B on a 2-4 record behind group winners Iceland, at 5-1, and Slovakia at 3-3.
