    Puerto Rico announce powerhouse preparation schedule for World Cup

    SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico) - Puerto Rico face four teams in the top 10 of the FIBA World Ranking Men - USA, Serbia, Lithuania and Italy - as well as Dominican Republic and Latvia in World Cup warm-up games.

    SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico) - As preparation game schedules go, Puerto Rico have among the toughest of any national team that's getting ready for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.

    The Boricuas will play six friendly games against opponents headed to the World Cup and four of them are in the top 10 of the FIBA World Ranking Men.

    After hosting No. 23 Dominican Republic in a battle of Caribbean countries on August 4, No. 20 Puerto Rico will meet No. 2 USA three days later in Las Vegas. Next will be two stops in Europe, at No. 10 Italy and then at No. 6 Serbia in Belgrade.

    Finally, Puerto Rico, coached by Nelson Colon, will meet two teams from the Baltics. They will go up against No. 8 Lithuania on August 19 and then No. 29 Latvia on August 20. Both of those games will be played in Chinese Taipei.

    Puerto Rico will meet Serbia as well in the First Round in Group B along with South Sudan and China and could end up playing Italy and the Dominican Republic in the Second Round.
