MIES (Switzerland) – Set to be the biggest FIBA Basketball World Cup ever, the 2023 edition is upping its merchandising game with its Licensing and Retail Global Program.

Excitement is growing rapidly in the build up to the 19th edition of FIBA's flagship event, which for the first time will be hosted by three nations, namely the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia from August 25 to September 10.

With 32 National Teams participating in 92 games across the three host countries and in front of millions of fans, demand for products is expected to be sky-high, particularly in the three host countries with the licensing program now with dedicated Official Online Stores, Fan Shops and pop-ups across the host cities in the buildup to the event and Fan Shops during the competition at the venues and Fan Zones.

Fans in the Philippines had their chance to lay their hands on the merchandise across two locations during the Draw Festival.

Online stores are now available in all three host countries - in the Philippines, in Japan and in Indonesia.

The launch of the Licensing and Retail Global Program took place at the Draw Festival in Manila in April and fans witnessed the first World Cup fashion show ever held by FIBA to provide a glimpse of the various collections available. The fashion show featured multiple key opinion leaders from the sports industry.

FIBA has developed six themed licensing collections inspired by the culture of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 host countries and basketball culture. The collections were built to celebrate the national pride, the passion for the sport and style of the sport through dedicated collections while also providing fans with innovative, fresh and high quality creative product designs that suits all diversities of our fans.

The program includes products in the key licensing categories with their own specific activation strategies- apparel, headwear, toys and games, plush, fan items, souvenirs, accessories, stationary, homeware, bags/luggage and books.

David Crocker, FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Executive Director, said: "It's exciting that after extensive work in the past year with IMG, our Global Master Licensee, we are now delivering the Licensing and Retail Global Program with innovative and creative products.

"The passion of the fans is incredible and you can already feel their amazing appetite for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. We are confident that we can meet the demand there will be for official licensed products and merchandise - something that will contribute to our aim of making it the best edition ever," added Crocker.
