CONAKRY (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers) - Guinea Basketball Federation on Monday appointed Michel Perrin as their head coach for the remainder of the World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers
CONAKRY (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers) - Guinea Basketball Federation on Monday appointed Michel Perrin as their head coach for the remainder of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers.
The Frenchman replaces Ousmane Tafsir Camara, who led the team in the first leg of Group A of the African Qualifiers in November.
Guinea currently sit bottom of their group after losing all three of their games.
It's on the back of their poor results that the country's Basketball Federation decided to call on Perrin - a man who has a history of basketball in Africa.
Perrin was in charge of Mali in the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2012 held in Ankara, Turkey. He has previously coached Cameroon women's national team as well as the Central African Republic men's team.
Speaking to FIBA.basketball, Guinea Basketball Federation Secretary General Oumar Camara Sampil explained that Perrins' appointment aims to promote Guinean basketball and give it a "better image" following Group A's first-leg results.
From June 29 - July 1, Guinea will take on host Tunisia, Cameroon and Chad in the second-leg of Group A in an attempt to secure a spot in the 12-team Second Round of the African Qualifiers.
The team's preparation, according to the Federation, will start in mid-June.
