    Australia, China, New Zealand, and the Philippines claim last spots at FIBA U17 World Cup  

    DOHA (Qatar) - Australia, China, New Zealand, and the Philippines all won in the Quarter-Finals of the FIBA U16 Asian Championship 2023 to claim the remaining spots at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup.

    DOHA (Qatar) - Australia, China, New Zealand, and the Philippines all won in the Quarter-Finals of the FIBA U16 Asian Championship 2023 to claim the remaining spots at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2024 to be played in Turkiye from 29 June to 7 July.

    Australia and New Zealand are set to make consecutive appearances at the U17 Basketball World Cup, following their participation in the 2022 event in Spain. Meanwhile, China and the Philippines are making a noteworthy return to the global youth tournament, having missed the previous edition.

    Australia have played in all previous six U17 Basketball World Cups, making it to the Final in 2012 and 2014.

    China finished 7th for three straight U17 Basketball World Cups - their best result - from 2010 to 2014 and will be making their 6th appearance in the competition.

    New Zealand placed 12th in the previous edition of the competition, their best result to date in a total of two previous appearances.

    The Philippines' best result at the U17 World Cup was in 2018 when they finished at 13 and have played in two previous appearances as well.

    These four national squads complete the 16-team cast of the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2024, which will be from 29 June to 7 July in Turkiye. They join the other qualified teams which are Turkiye, USA, Canada, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Guinea, Egypt, Spain, Italy, France, Lithuania, and Germany.

    The results of the Quarter-Finals also sent these four teams to the Semi-Finals, and all of them are still in the running for a place on the FIBA U16 Asian Championship 2023 podium.
