Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and Lebanon all came up victorious in the Quarter-Finals of the FIBA U16 Asian Championship 2022 to secure the final spots available at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022
DOHA (Qatar) - Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and Lebanon all came up victorious in the Quarter-Finals of the FIBA U16 Asian Championship 2022 to secure the final spots available at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022 to be played in Malaga, Spain from 2-10 July.
Australia and New Zealand are the two teams returning to make a consecutive appearance at the U17 Basketball World Cup after playing in the 2018 edition in Argentina. Japan will be making their second ever appearance, after last qualifying for the U17 World Cup in 2014. Meanwhile, Lebanon will be representing the country at the global event for the very first time.
Australia have played in every U17 Basketball World Cup, making it to the Final in 2012 and 2014. New Zealand placed at 14 in the previous edition of the competition. Japan also finished 14th in their last appearance back in 2014.
These four national squads complete the 16-team cast of the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022, which will be from 2 to 10 July in Malaga, Spain. They join the other qualified teams which are France, Serbia, Canada, Spain, Dominican Republic, Lithuania, USA, Mali, Slovenia, Argentina, Egypt, Poland.
The results of the Quarter-Finals also sent these four teams to the Semi-Finals, and all of them are still in the running for a place on the FIBA U16 Asian Championship 2022 podium.
