    Morocco preliminary squad announced for FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Qualifiers

    RABAT (FIBA AfroBasket 2017) - Morocco's new head coach, El Bouzidi Said, on Monday announced a 16-player list for the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Zone 1 Qualifier.

    RABAT (FIBA AfroBasket 2017) - Morocco's new head coach, El Bouzidi Said, on Monday announced a 16-player list for the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Zone 1 Qualifier. 

    While he kept seven members of the team that featured at FIBA AfroBasket 2015 in Tunisia, El Bouzidi also brought back El Masbahi Zakaria, an experienced small forward who turns 39 later this month.

    Left out from the Morocco side that came in 13th two years ago, Zakaria has represented his country at six editions of FIBA AfroBasket dating back to 2003.

    Meanwhile, John Wilkins is set to make his debut with the Moroccans.   

    The son of former NBA player Jeff Wilkins, John was born in Antibes, France, played college basketball at Illinois State University and currently plays for Moroccan side Chabab RIF Hoceima.

    The FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Zone 1 Qualifier will see Morocco going up against Libya, Tunisia and Algeria.

    The first leg of the tournament will take place in Algeria from (March 16-18) with the second to follow in Tunisia (March 24-26).

    The teams that finish first and second in this qualifier will advance to the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Final Round in Congo-Brazzaville (August 19-30).
