YAOUNDE (Cameroon) - Stade Malien have withdrawn from the upcoming West Division Elite 16, FIBA Africa confirmed on Sunday.

The Malian champions informed FIBA Africa of their unavailability 24 hours after beating AS Real 78-65 in the Final of the 2023 Mali Cup.

The announcement means Group A of the upcoming qualifier in Yaounde (31 October - November 5) will go ahead with Forces Armees et Police (FAP), Al Ahly Benghazi and BC Virunga.

The teams that finish in the top three places of the West Division Elite 16, which is split into Groups A and B,  will advance to the fourth season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).

Stade Malien made history last year by becoming the first club to reach the BAL Semi-Finals and subsequent Third-Place after starting their quest in the preliminary phase of the Road to Phase.
