MINSK (Belarus) – Belarusian legend Yelena Leuchanka is on course to make a return to the national team after being named in an exciting 16-player squad for FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2019.
After missing the previous edition of Final Round, the veteran star could once again be the centerpiece of what might just be the most talented Belarus team in recent memory.

Alexandria Bentley | Hanna Brych | Viktoriya Hasper | Yanina Inkina |
Tatsiana Likhtarovich | Yelena Leuchanka | Kseniya Malashka | Aryna Masko |
Maryia Papova | Yuliya Rytsikava | Darya Siamiletnikava | Katsiaryna Snytsina |
Aliaksandra Tarasava | Maryia Trafimenkava | Anastasiya Verameyenka | Volha Ziuzkova |
If things go according to plan, she will reunite with Fenerbahce forward Anastasiya Verameyenka, for one of the most potent ‘Twin Towers’ combos in the European game. Belarus will also benefit from a frontcourt rotation that will include Maryia Papova, who can put points on the board in a hurry.
The backcourt and wings will be packed with talent also, with the naturalized Alexandria Bentley lining up with the experienced Katsiaryina Syntsina and dynamic Tatsiana Likhtarovich.
Add into the mix the possibility of some super rising stars such as Kseniya Malashka and all of a sudden, Group D means it isn’t only a so-called ‘Group of Death’ because of the presence of Serbia, Belgium and Russia.
Perhaps it will be Belarus that will be the ones now favoured to advance and bring back the glory days of just over a decade ago, when they won a historic first medal at Final Round and went on to play at the 2008 Olympics.
