    Sarr increases preliminary squad as Senegal set to resume World Cup preparations

    DAKAR - (FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018) - Senegal Basketball Federation (FSBB) on Friday announced a 24-player preliminary squad for this year's FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.

    After holding a training camp with sixteen home-based players last April, head coach Cheick Sarr has now named a wider group of players, including some professionals based overseas.

    And although two-time FIBA Women's AfroBasket MVP Aya Traore, and her fellow Olympians Mame Marie Sy, and Fatou Dieng have been left out of the team, Sarr ensured to call up Astou Traore, the Most Valuable Player at last year's African Championship.

    The FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 will take place in Tenerife, Spain from September 22-30.

    In the Group Phase of the competition, the FIBA Womens' AfroBasket 2017 runners-up will face the World and Olympic champions, the USA, China and Latvia.

    Spain 2018 marks the return of Senegal to the World Cup for the first time since 2010.
