Happy camp in Argentina as they gear up for China tour

BUENOS AIRES (FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018) – Argentina are continuing their preparations for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup with more than 15 players currently in camp and getting ready for their country to enter the global stage again.

It’s now two whole Olympic cycles since the South American nation appeared at the tournament, going 1-4 in the Czech Republic back in 2010.

However spirits are high in the wake of having almost upset Canada last year in the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup Final when they were only squeezed off the top step of the podium in a narrow 65-67 loss.

Head coach Cristian Santander is able to work with most of his leading players, although the arrival of playmaker Melissa Greter, who made the All-Star Five last year, is complicated by club commitments in the Brazilian Championship.

Other team leaders such as Andrea Boquete, Agostina Burani, Macarena Rosset and Debora Gonzalez are all present and this core are likely to continue carrying the main threat.

Argentina will head to China July 14 – 21 and that will form an essential part of their preparation for Tenerife. The last game Argentina played eight years ago at the Worlds was a 60-86 defeat to China – with Gonzalez and Burani both present in Karlovy Vary.
