BENGALURU (FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2017) - Several tantalizing scoring performances have been seen all across the board during the group phase at the Women's Asia Cup, but three players have really stood out.
Let us take a look at the top three scorers so far in this competition. Here are the three ladies who have consistently and routinely torn up the nets with their uncanny ability to find the hoop and get points on the board for their respective squads.
Ro Suk Yong (DPR Korea)
- 22.3 points per game, 56% field goal shooting.
- Let's begin with the top scorer after three days of intense competition. DPR Korea's 1.81m center may not be the quickest and biggest - and she may not have textbook shooting form - but she can sure put the ball in the basket. Right on opening day, Ro exploded with 32 points against Chinese Taipei, which she followed up by scoring 15 against the Tall Ferns. Even in the face of mighty China, the 24-year-old did not slow down, tossing 20 points. Despite her scoring sock, however, DPR Korea have yet to win a game, and for sure, that's something of utmost concern even for a potent scorer like RO.
Li Yueru (China)

- 19.0 points per game, 54.8% field goal shooting.
- Li is the second-best scorer so far in the tournament, but that's already an amazing feat considering she is just 18 years old. At 2.01m, she stands head and shoulder above most ladies in the competition, and she has been able to maximize that advantage to the fullest. She may have had a slow start scoring just 5 points against New Zealand, but the newcomer to the senior women's team bounced back strong in China's last two games, scoring a combined 52 points against Taipei and DPR Korea. Li represents a bright future for China, but she still has a lot of ground to cover with the knockout rounds just around the corner.
Jillian Harmon (New Zealand)
- 17.3 points per game, 44.4% field goal shooting.
- Harmon is living proof that potency doesn't necessarily diminish with age. At 30 years old, she is one of the oldest players in the entire tournament, but that has not stopped her from being very effective. She has consistently scored 14 or more points for the Tall Ferns in each of their games, and she has proven that she can still keep in step with the rising stars of Asia. If she can continue to utilize her crafty offense well, the Kiwis are certain to go deep in the competition and have a great chance to qualify to the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018.
