SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico) - The teams of the USA and Brazil remained undefeated after Wednesday's action and settled in the 2019 FIBA AmeriCup Women's Semi-finals.
The USA gave another show of forcefulness and this time defeated Argentina 100-50, to achieve its third triumph in Group B and ensure a spot in the Semi-Finals.
The troop led by Dawn Staley again revealed his great physical and technical level and dominated all categories of the game. All 12 players who stepped on the court managed to add points to the scoreboard.
Katie Lou Samuelson finished with 16 units and seven rebounds, while Sylvia Fowles and Arike Ogunbowale added 14 points each.
For its part, Brazil also achieved its third consecutive victory in Group B by dispatching Paraguay 101-59 and secured its qualification to the Semi-Finals.
The Amazonians started the match with a 14-0 run and from then on they built a solid game in which they had five players with 10 or more points, scored 14 three-pointers and made 38 points from the paint.
Damiris Dantas was the top scorer with 22 units and seven rebounds, followed by Tati Pacheco (15), Isabela Ramona (14), Alana Gonçalo (12) and Patty Texeira (10).
As is customary in Paraguay, Paola Ferrari emerged with 25 points and seven rebounds.
In Group A, Puerto Rico surpassed the Dominican Republic 81-56 and earned a trip to the Semi-Finals, where Canada was already located with a 3-0 record.
The Puerto Ricans, with the impulse of their fans, imposed their fast attack pace and took advantage early. The Boricuas dominated the first quarter 18-9 and at halftime increased the gap to 35-21. The Dominicans tried to mount a reaction in the third quarter, but Puerto Rico returned to a fast pace and with a 19-6 run settled the game.
Coming from the bench, Dayshalee Salaman, guided the Puerto Rican attack with 15 points. Jennifer O'Neill also added 15 units and Pamela Rosado 11.
In the other clash of Group A, Cuba added another victory, this time against Mexico, with a score of 65-62.
Experienced Yamara Amargo scored 22 points and was crucial in the triumph by hitting a double with 26 seconds left, which gave her team an advantage of 63-59. Then, in the next action, she stole a ball and his partner Anisleidy Galindo received a foul that send her to the free-throw line, where she sealed the conquest by scoring her two shots and putting the score 65-59, with only 11 seconds on the clock.
Galindo finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Suchitel Ávila added 10 points and 15 boards.
During the last day of the Group, Colombia will face Argentina, the USA will face Brazil, Canada will play the Dominican Republic and finally, Puerto Rico will play Mexico.
