    Brazil defeat the hosts, takes the Bronze

    Brazil had a solid afternoon in attack and defeated the host, Puerto Rico, 95-66, to take home the Bronze Medal of the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2019.

    SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico) - Brazil had a solid afternoon in attack and defeated the host, Puerto Rico, 95-66, to take home the Bronze Medal of the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2019.

    The Amazonians dominated from the painted area, with Damiris Dantas and Erika De Souza scoring 28 and 16 points, respectively. In addition, they scored 12 three-pointers. Tati Pacheco produced another 15 points from the bench.

    For Puerto Rico, Dayshalee Salaman led the attack with 15 points.

    Turning Point: Brazil took control of the game following a 32-16 third quarter. Three-pointers from Tati and Alana Gonçalo, with 3:04 left in the quarter, opened the lead to more than 20 points (66-44).

    Game Hero: Damiris Dantas was constant throughout the match and in addition to her 28 points (6-4 in three-pointers), she had nine rebounds and distributed eight assists.

    Stats don’t lie: The Brazilians scored 46 points from the area under the basket and controlled the rebounds 46-24.

    The Bottom Line: The Brazilian team, which accumulates five continental titles, for the third time in its history reached the bronze medal. The previous occasions were in 2007 and 2013.
