    Central African Republic awarded wild card for FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017

    ABIDJAN, Cote d'Ivoire (FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017) - FIBA Africa on Wednesday awarded the wild card for FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017 to the Central African Republic (CAF).

    ABIDJAN, Cote d'Ivoire (FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017) - FIBA Africa on Wednesday awarded the wild card for FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017 to the Central African Republic (CAF).

    With this announcement, the line-up is complete for the 12-team event that will take place in Mali's capital city of Bamako from August 18-27.

    CAF will compete in Group A along with Mali, Cameroon, Tunisia, Cote d’Ivoire and Angola. Group B consists of Senegal, Nigeria, Egypt, Guinea, DR Congo and Mozambique.

    The Group Phase will be played in a round robin format, with every team taking on its five (5) opponents in its respective group. The top four (4) teams from each group will advance to the Final Phase played in a knockout format from the Quarter-Finals onwards (Semi-Finals and Finals). The Third-Place Game and the Final will take place on Sunday August 27.

    The top 2 teams at FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017 will qualify for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 due to take place in Spain from September 22-30 2018.
