With their qualification to the South American U17 Championship Final, Argentina and Brazil qualified to the FIBA U18 Americas Championship 2020.
The Brazilians, as has been a constant in this contest, appealed to their physical strength and their game in the paint to defeat Uruguay 72-63.
Brazil distanced itself at halftime 40-23, thanks to a 28-9 second quarter. Uruguay was better in the third quarter and cut the difference to 57-48. But in the final 10 minutes, Brazil recovered the pace and with defense captured the win.
Brazil scored 40 points from the painted area and captured 14 offensive rebounds for 13 points in second chances.
Guilherme Carvalho was the top scorer with 20 units. Adyel Pereira also shined with 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists and Marcio Santos added 13 points with eight catches.
In the other Semi-Final, Argentina did not give any truce and defeated Ecuador 102-52.
From the get-go, Argentina established the conditions with its defense (24 steals) and good effectiveness from long distance (21-11 in three-pointers).
Federico Copes, with 19 points, commanded the offense of the team that had up to five men with more than 10 points. Fabio Gauto added 16, Francisco Méndez 12 and Tomás Allende and Alejo Azpilicueta left 11 points each.
For its part, Venezuela culminated won fifth place in the tournament after defeating Chile 87-74.
Venezuela, took the early lead and celebrated the win, had four players scoring double digits in points. Andrés Marrero was the leader with 20, followed by Luis Betancourt (eight assists) and Diego Machín (five triples), with 17 points each and Beiker Barrios with 14 and nine rebounds.
