"This is a new version of the team we saw on the Centrobasket U15 Championship last year. Several areas of the team were improved. We have better shooting guards with more offensive and defensive potential. We have solid centers. We also added players who study in the United States. It is a team that should have a better performance in this event," said Raymond Cintron, coach of the U16 National Team.

Puerto Rico was drawn into Group B of the continental championship and will start the competition against the host on June 3. The Boricuas will then face Uruguay and Canada to close-out the group phase of the competition.

The top-four teams of the FIBA U16 Americas Championship will qualify to the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2020.
