SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico) - It will be a proud moment for the 12 players who will step out with Puerto Rico as their nation takes its first ever Olympic steps this month.
Having booked their maiden spot at the event almost 18 months ago at the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament in France with a famous victory against Americas rivals Brazil, it's been a longer than anticpated wait to make their debut. Since 2020, they have tried to sustain the momentum, recently making the FIBA Women's AmeriCup Final against USA.
They will be led by the one-two punch of star guard Jennifer O'Neill who is a scoring machine, plus the powerful Jazmon Gwathmey who led her team in points, rebounds and efficiency in Bourges last year.

“The team is made up of the same players who represented us in the Americup recently," said head coach Jerry Batista.
"It is a very talented team, a combination of veteran and young players. They have good chemistry, they know each other well and understand their roles.
“We are sure that we will work hard and do the best possible. I am very happy, enthusiastic and very proud of this team that has already represented the country so well, "added the play-caller.
