TOKYO (Japan) - The United States underlined their status as the best men's basketball team in the world during the Games of the XXXII Olympiad.
Team USA won their fourth straight Olympic gold in the Japanese capital, withstanding France 87-82. With the victory, the USA have medaled in all 19 Olympics in which they have competed, a medal haul that comprises 16 gold medals, one silver and two bronze medals.
While the result is similar to previous Olympic campaigns, the Team USA roster featured 10 players who made their Games-time debut in Tokyo. Team USA's all-time top Olympic scorer Kevin Durant and the playmaker/defensive stalwart Draymond Green meanwhile provided the veteran leadership to the American squad.
Showcasing the depth of international basketball, the Americans were tested throughout the Men's Olympic Basketball Tournament. They dropped their Group Phase opener to France, 83-76 before ripping off wins over Iran, Czech Republic, Spain and Australia leading into the Olympic Final
Down double-digits in the second quarter to longtime rival Spain , USA got hot on the offensive side while making stops on the other side of the court to rally to a 95-81 win. The Americans withstood a withering 38 point performance from Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio in a over a changing-of-the-guard game that capped the international playing careers of brothers Pau and Marc Gasol.
Team USA also came from 15 points down to the Aussies before running away from the Boomers in the second half of the Semi-Finals to win 97-78 and advance once again to the Gold Medal Game.
Following Team USA's latest triumph, here's how some of the media have reacted:
