PRAIA (Cape Verde) - The Cape Verdean Basketball Federation (FCBB) is happy to announce the launch of their FIBA PLUS Strategy and Planning Program. The program, a pilot project delivered by FIBA, is designed to assist National Federations in the development of basketball in their country by helping them develop a sustainable strategic focus.
The FIBA PLUS Strategy and Planning program is one of the initiatives undertaken by FIBA, as part of its 2019-2023 strategy, to "Empower National Federations" to reach their full potential.
This initiative is a tailor-made program for Cape Verde Basketball with the aim to put in place correct strategies for its specific needs to help improve the federation's capacity to organize, professionalize and commercialize its basketball activities, ensuring the game's successful development in Cape Verde.
After discussions with the FCBB and its external stakeholders to better understand how the federation works, the environment in which it operates, and its goals, FIBA will first support the FCBB to help complete its situation analysis. This analysis will provide information for the FCBB Board Members to consider when defining their future focus and developing their plan and provide necessary performance baselines and benchmarks which the federation can use to measure its future growth and progress.
Throughout the FIBA PLUS Strategy and Planning Program, the Cape Verdean Basketball Federation will define goals, develop SMART objectives and detailed action plans for the next 18 to 24 months. FIBA will support the federation along the way with strong mentoring, workshops and tailored assistance. A monitoring process will also be used to re-evaluate the FCBB strategy regularly to ensure it's still right for the needs of the federation. All workshop sessions will be conducted via videoconference.
FCBB President Mario Correia said: "We are thrilled to be chosen by FIBA to receive this pilot project which will provide us guidance in implementing our vision and strategic thinking in developing the game of basketball in Cape Verde. Our focus is to take on new goals and objectives which will take basketball in Cape Verde to new heights, and with this program, we will be better prepared to materialize them and be successful in all areas of our operations. We are very appreciative of FIBA in their quest to develop the game, and, for a small country like us, where basketball is at a crucial point of development, this will help grow the game even more.”
FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis said: "One of the main focus areas for FIBA during the current working cycle from 2019-2023 is to support and help develop our National Federation members. National Federations are the foundation of the FIBA family and a key driver of basketball development in each country. This program will provide the Cape Verdean Basketball Federation with a high level of expertise and knowledge and practical guidance on each step of their planning process. FIBA greatly appreciates the FCBB's participation and contribution through this process and their commitment to developing basketball in Cape Verde."
