CAIRO, Egypt (FIBA Africa) - FIBA Africa's Central Board on Friday announced that the Republic of Congo will host the 2017 edition of the FIBA AfroBasket, and also revealed that Rwanda and Egypt are the organising countries of the 2016 FIBA Africa U18 Championships for Men and Women respectively.
The host of the FIBA AfroBasket Women 2017 will be decided later.
The Republic of Congo recently demonstrated a great know-how in organising high level tournaments by hosting the 2015 All-Africa Games at Kintele Sports Complex on the outskirts of the capital city Brazzaville.
The country boasts top level facilities.
The FIBA Africa U18 Championship is returning to Rwanda six years after it was last held there (2010).
Twelve teams will do battle for supremacy in the age category in Africa but also to claim the two places on offer to qualify for the 2017 FIBA U19 World Championship that will take place for the first time in the Egyptian capital city of Cairo.
Twelve teams will do battle at the 2016 FIBA Africa U18 Women's Championship in Egypt for the right to reign supreme on the continent, with the two best teams also booking their places for the 2017 FIBA U19 Women's World Championship that will be held in Italy.
FIBA Africa's Central Board is also evaluating the candidates for the right to host the 2016 FIBA Africa Champions Cups for Men and Women.
