GUAM (FIBA Oceania) - The Guam Basketball Confederation (GBC) appointed their new officials, the board of directors elected E.J. Calvo as President of the Board while Frank Cruz will take on the Secretary-General post.

GBC suffered a heartbreaking loss with the passing of former president and FIBA Oceania Board member Tony Thompson earlier this year.

"I worked closely with Tony (Thompson) to accomplish several goals and objectives since he recruited me to coach our men's team in 2012, and my focus will be to continue that progress for our program and island community to be proud of," shared Calvo.

Calvo, who also handles Guam men's national basketball team which he led to a Gold Medal in the 2015 Pacific Games hopes to build the camaraderie of Guam basketball moving forward.

"Our Guam Basketball community is strong, and I hope to unite more clubs and organizations to work together to further grow the sport and create more opportunities for players, coaches, and officials,” he shared.

Newly elected Secretary General, Cruz who is also the current Vice President was present in FIBA Oceania's 50th anniversary in Sydney last week.

"We are really happy to be part of the FIBA Oceania family and we hope we can help grow the game of basketball in Guam and the region," Cruz said, a 20-year FIBA referee and currently a General Manager for KFC.

Susan Lapola remains Board Secretary, while Maree Pelkey continues as Treasurer.
